In 2010, AQSIQ conducted spot checks on the quality of 8 products, including student supplies, electric bicycle electric motors, combined electrical cabinets, self ballasted fluorescent lamps and electric furnaces for general lighting.

Among them, 198 batches of products produced by 94 enterprises in 8 provinces (cities), such as Beijing and Tianjin, were inspected by student supplies, and 7 major projects such as migration elements, benzene, chlorinated hydrocarbons, cap safety on the pens, formaldehyde and total volatile organic compounds were tested. The results showed that 29 batches of 19 enterprises failed to meet the standard requirements.

Spot checks include rubber, crayons, oil painting sticks, correction fluid, glue and other common student supplies.

Most of the unqualified products such as oil sticks and crayons were over lead and barium, but the products with unqualified formaldehyde were up to 66%, which were found in liquid glue and solid glue.

Among them, Beijing snow cultural products manufacturing Co., Ltd. in July 9, 2010, the production of glue, due to formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds exceeded the standard is not qualified.

It is understood that in the production process of plates, furniture, coatings and adhesives, a large amount of formaldehyde is needed as a carrier.

In the high temperature production line, most formaldehyde forms glue, which has no harm to the human body, but a small part of formaldehyde does not participate in the reaction, and it becomes free formaldehyde.

In accordance with the unqualified products found in spot checks, AQSIQ has instructed relevant provincial (city) quality and technical supervision departments to deal with relevant products and production enterprises according to law.
