European Flax News For The First Quarter! In 2025, Flax Fiber Supply Will Be Sufficient And The Price Will Be Adjusted

The following information comes from the first quarter information bulletin of the European Flax and Hemp Federation: Since the autumn harvest season of 2024, the planting area and output of flax certified by European flax fiber have set a historical record, which makes the flax market focus.

After a poor harvest in the flax harvest season in 2023 and a continuous low harvest since 2020, this great harvest has been welcomed by the European flax industry. Remember that in the latest industry data update on November 21, 2024, we announced that the output of long fiber certified by European flax fiber from January to June 2025 is expected to exceed 18000 tons per month. So far, the output is expected to remain between 17000 and 18000 tons per month, which determines that the output level of long fiber in the first half of 2025 will be close to the historical high. At the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, the sales price of beaten flax certified by European flax fiber will be adjusted. As farmers finalize crop rotation options for 2025, the following is the latest confirmation from the European industry:

Long fiber price

1. After reaching the peak of about 9 euros per kilogram in the spring of 2024 (including all quality grades and production regions), the price has remained stable until the summer, and then began to decline.

2. The price decline was relatively slow at first, and accelerated in autumn. The price released by the European Flax and Hemp Union: the average price in October 2024 is 6.78 euros/kg, 5.23 euros/kg in November, and 3.96 euros/kg in December.

3. At present, the price data of January 2025 has not been consolidated.

Planting area – 2025 outlook

1. Since the sowing date has not started, the planting area in 2025 is still unclear. However, industry professionals predict that compared with 2024, the planting area of flax fiber certification in the whole Europe covering France, Belgium and the Netherlands will increase slightly.

2. For winter flax, it was sown at the end of last autumn, and usually harvested a few weeks before planting spring flax. The planting area of France, Belgium and the Netherlands is estimated to be about 30000 hectares, close to the level of the previous year.

3. A more detailed outlook on the total planting area will be released in the next quarterly update released in the spring of 2025.
