Infant and children's clothing refers to all kinds of clothing designed, produced and sold specifically to meet the clothing needs of infants and children. The fabric and style design requirements of infant and children's clothing are higher than those of adult clothing. Q1: How to divide infants and children's clothing?

According to the mandatory national standard GB 31701-2015 Technical Code for Safety of Textile Products for Infants and Children, textile products for infants and children refer to textile products worn or used by infants and children aged 36 months and below, and textile products for children refer to textile products worn or used by children aged over 3 years and 14 years and below. On the other hand, according to the requirements of the design of clothing rope, it can also be divided into clothing for infants and children under 7 years of age, and clothing for children aged 7 years and above.

Generally, clothing size is expressed in terms of height, chest circumference or waist circumference, which is generally applicable to textile products worn or used by infants with a height of 100cm or less; Textile products worn or used by girls over 100cm, 155cm and below or boys under 160cm can be used as children's textile products, and those worn by children under 130cm and below can be used as children's clothing under 7 years old. When the product is marked with applicable age and specification, if there is any mismatch, the age should be taken as the dividing basis.

Q2: What are the mandatory technologies for infants and children's clothing?

The GB 31701-2015 Technical Specification for Safety of Textile Products for Infants and Children issued on May 26, 2015 is the first mandatory national standard specifically for textile products for infants and children in China, filling the gap in the regulatory basis of various safety requirements for textile products for infants and children.

The safety technical requirements for textile products for infants and children can be divided into three categories: A, B and C, which correspond to the safety technical categories in GB 18401. The textile products for infants and children should meet the requirements of Category A, the textile products for children directly contacting skin should at least meet the requirements of Category B, and the textile products for children not directly contacting skin should at least meet the requirements of Category C. Infant and children's clothing shall be marked with the standard number of GB 31701 and the category of safety technical requirements it meets on the instructions for use, and infant textile products shall also be marked with "infant products".

On the basis of the original GB 18401-2010 National Technical Code for Basic Safety of Textile Products, GB 31701 has added requirements for color fastness to wet rubbing, heavy metals (total lead, total cadmium), phthalates and combustion performance to the fabric part. In addition, it has added requirements for tensile strength of accessories for infant products, sharp tips and edges of accessories for infant and children products Further requirements are put forward for the safety of clothing straps, sharp objects such as metal needles in packaging and products, and the location of durability labels on infant clothing.

Q4: How to select the executive standards for infants and children's clothing?

First, distinguish the age of infants or children. With 36 months (100cm in height) as the dividing line, clothing standards for infants and young children aged 36 months and below, and clothing standards for children aged 36 months to 14 years old.

Second, distinguish the types of fabrics. Select corresponding standards for woven and knitted fabrics respectively.

Third, select specific product standards according to specific products. Some clothes, such as wool knitwear and other flat woven clothes, do not belong to the category of Knitted Infant and Children's Clothing. For clothes with special functions, such as windbreaker, assault suit, sun proof clothes, the corresponding clothing standards can be used or the conformity of relevant functions can be noted.
