Rainy Weather, Japanese UNIQLO Sales Plummeted 10% In July
Japan's local market sales of Uniqlo UNIQLO continued to fluctuate.
In July, the same store sales with online sales fell by 10% year-on-year. Brand parent Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. (9983.T) express group explained that "non seasonal cool weather runs through the whole month", thus reducing the demand for summer wear. The number of customers increased by 5.6% during the period, but the price of customers decreased by 2.7% compared with the same period last year.
The extension of the rainy season has also hit other retailers' sales. Japan's largest department store operator, Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (3099.T), seven Tokyo department stores in San Yue Yi Dan Dan sold 4.4% fewer year-on-year sales, of which the Shinjuku store had been reduced by 7.1%. Overall sales of Takashimaya Co. Ltd. (8233.T) High Island house also recorded a 1.3% decline.
Uniqlo UNIQLO's performance in July completely reversed the surprise of June, thanks to the annual promotion campaign "Uniqlo birth Thanksgiving Day" moved from May to June, and sales in the same store surged 27.3% last month. By the end of July, the first 11 months of the fiscal year saw a slight increase in the same store sales in Japan, while 6.2% in the 2018 fiscal year. The growth rate in the same year was 2018.
Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. (9983.T) reported 65150 yen on Friday, down 0.9% throughout the day, and has recorded an increase of 15.6% since 2019. Author: Lin Biying
