In order to solve the pollution problem of leather industry thoroughly, the Xinji municipal government has adopted a strategy of centralized pollution control and unified management. All the tanning enterprises have been moved into the tannery industrial area, and the three level sewage treatment structure has been established, including the primary management of enterprises, the professional management of Parks and the comprehensive treatment of urban sewage treatment plants.

The Xinji municipal government has invested 52 million yuan, and built 3 tannery sewage treatment plants and 1 peak shaving treatment plants. The daily sewage treatment capacity is 35 thousand tons.

And plans to invest 20 million yuan to build second peak shaving treatment plants, the daily sewage treatment capacity reached 45 thousand tons.

The 100 thousand ton urban sewage treatment plant invested 138 million yuan is running well, and the effluent quality reaches the two level standard of the national comprehensive discharge standard for sewage.

At the same time, Xinji has actively introduced chrome free tanning process in tanning enterprises. Chrome free tanning leather accounts for over 85% of the total leather, and has become a truly "green leather".
