Global Fabric Production Decline

The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) released the two quarter 2011 trade situation report.

Overall, global yarn production increased in the two quarter of 2011 over the previous quarter as Asian output increased, especially in China.

In addition, textile production in Asia and South America has increased, production in Europe and North America has declined, and global fabric production has increased.


It is noteworthy that China's output was lower in the first quarter, because the number of working days decreased during the Chinese New Year holiday.

Compared with the previous year, global yarn production has increased because of the increase in Asian and North American production, although production in South America and Europe has decreased, while global fabric production has decreased in all regions, except in South America.


Global yarn inventories surged in the two quarter of 2011 over the previous quarter, especially in South America and Asia, while stocks in Europe and North America remained unchanged.

Yarn inventories surged year by year, especially in Asia and South America.

In the two quarter of 2011, stocks in North and South America also increased compared with the previous quarter, while Europe and Asia slightly decreased.


On the basis of year-on-year, inventories of fabrics in North and South America soared, but declined slightly in Europe and Asia.

Compared with the previous quarter and the two quarter of 2010, global yarn and fabric orders fell in Europe and Brazil.


In most countries, yarn and fabric production is estimated to decline or remain unchanged in the three quarter of 2011.

Fourth quarter yarn and fabric production is expected to improve, and production in most countries is likely to increase or remain unchanged.


Compared with last quarter, world yarn production increased by 12.1% in the second quarter of 2011.

Although only Asia grew by 13.9%, other regions fell (South America -7.3%, European -6.5%, North American -3.1%).

As Asia and North America increased by 1.8% and 0.4% respectively, Europe (-8.3%) and South America (-16.3%) decreased, global yarn production increased by 1%.


Compared with last quarter, global fabric production increased by 4.4% in the two quarter of 2011.

Asian fabric production increased by 5.1%, South America increased by 3.6%, but Europe and North America (-1.3% and -0.4% respectively) fell.

Compared to the two quarter of last year, global fabric production dropped by -6.0%.

From all regions, only South America grew by 7.7%, while in North America, Asia and Europe, fabric production decreased by -8.8%, -7.3% and -3.4% respectively.


Compared with the previous quarter, global yarn inventories surged by 16.4% in the two quarter of 2011.

South America and Asia surged by 39.9% and 21.8% respectively, but Europe and North America remained unchanged.

From the year-on-year perspective, global yarn inventories grew by 21.2% over the same period last year.

Especially in South America and Asia, yarn inventories rose by 82.8% and 26.1% respectively, but Europe and North America were flat.


In the second quarter of 2011, global fabric inventories increased by 8.1% over the previous quarter.

South America and North America increased by 56.8% and 9.2% respectively, but Asia (-3.5%) and Europe (-0.6%) declined.

Compared to the second quarter of last year, global fabric inventories increased by 8.1%.

South America increased by 44.6%, North America increased by 12.9%, but Asia and Europe fell by -1.6%-0.4% respectively.


Compared with the previous quarter, European yarn and fabric orders fell by -0.4% and -1.2% in the two quarter of 2011, while Brazil plummeted -30.4% and -10.5% respectively.

European yarn and fabric orders remained unchanged from the same year, but Brazil fell by -40.0% and -18.7% respectively.
