Scientists in India have developed a new tannery process, which has good ecological and environmental friendliness.

Leather making is a complex chemical process that can make perishable hide into durable leather.

However, the water pollution of this process is very serious.

Today, RaghavaRao of the Institute of leather research in India's center has led its research team to improve the technology, making it an eco-friendly and cost-effective technology.

Researchers found that by simply inverting tanning and tanning steps and raising the non chemical tanning method, the chemicals released from leather making process can be reduced by 82% and energy saved by nearly 40%.

Rao said: more importantly, compared with the traditional leather making process, the quality of the finished leather is not inferior.

Testing Methods And Evaluation Criteria For Environmental Friendliness Of Tannery And Chemical Materials

Based on the raw materials used for leather chemical materials, the domestic and foreign related technologies are qualitatively speculated on the environmental friendliness of products. Germany has studied the biodegradability of tannery fatliquoring agents. Research and development contents of biochemical activity of activated sludge, standardization of degrading rules of activated sludge for tannery chemical materials and standardization of test methods are also discussed.
